Why We're Perfect for Small Business
Nobody understands small business like we do. Mostly because we are one. Here's why we're the ideal partner for your growing organization:
- We Get the Budget Thing: Your budget is $0? Incredible. So is ours. We've been operating on $0 since 2003. Our entire financial strategy is "ask Kevin's mom for pizza money." We are experts in doing a lot with nothing.
- We Understand the Struggle: You're wearing every hat? Same. Our president is also our CTO, CFO, head of marketing, and the person who refills the hand sanitizer. We run a 7-person organization with 14 job titles.
- Lean Operations: We have zero overhead. Literally. The school pays for the electricity and the WiFi (which doesn't work). Our office is a room we do not pay rent for. You cannot be leaner than free.
- No Contracts: We don't have contracts because we don't have a legal department. We don't have a legal department because we don't have a budget. It's a beautiful, self-sustaining ecosystem of having nothing.
The Small Business Package™
Introducing our Small Business Package — a carefully curated solution designed specifically for small businesses that need the confidence of a branded tier.
- What's Included: Everything we offer everyone else, which is the same thing, which is free. But now it says "Business" on it.
- Business Dashboard: It's the same webpage but we added a header that says "Business Dashboard" in Montserrat Bold. The data is the same. The font is more professional. That's the difference.
- Priority Support: Kevin answers your Slack message before he answers the other Slack messages. In practice, Kevin answers all messages at the same time (Wednesday at 3 PM), so this distinction is theoretical.
- Business Analytics: We will tell you how many people visited your project. The answer is usually between 0 and 3, and two of them are you.
Success Story: The Bake Sale Website
In October 2024, the Lincoln High School PTA approached us to build a website for the annual bake sale. This is what happened:
- The Brief: "Can you make a simple page with the date and a list of items?" We said yes. We should not have said yes.
- What We Built: A fully responsive, single-page application with a React frontend, a Node.js backend, a MongoDB database for cupcake inventory management, and a real-time bidding system for the brownies. The PTA asked for a flyer with a date on it.
- Launch Day: The site went live at 8:00 AM. By 8:03 AM, it had received 3 visitors (Kevin's mom, the principal, and a Google crawler). By 8:04 AM, it crashed. The server (Kevin's laptop) ran out of memory because we forgot to close VS Code.
- Outcome: The PTA went back to paper flyers. They did not ask us again. We consider this a successful deployment because the site technically worked for 4 minutes.
- Revenue Generated: The bake sale raised $847. None of it was because of the website. Mrs. Chen's lemon bars did all the heavy lifting.
"They were very enthusiastic. We will not be using them again." — Linda Chen, PTA Treasurer
